Bravo 2 possible damage from shifting

Long time viewer first time poster have always found this forum very helpful and am hoping to get pointed in the right direction. I have a 1990 Sportcraft 270 fishmaster. I got the boat as just a hull and after a new transom swapped in a mercruiser 350 mag. I bought a bravo 2 2.20-1 (at the time was told it was a bravo 1 1.5-1 ratio guy either lied or is stupid) So this whole time I bought everything for a bravo 1 prop etc. Fast forward to the issues, when installing the rear engine mounts i forgot the lock spring washers so i struggled trying to get the drive on and during that time was shifting it by hand without spinning the prop or shaft. I realized i was missing the washers and fixed that issue and the outdrive slid in place. while testing I had no reverse. running through the check list the lower cable is new, i had the actual adjustment tool and adjusted the cable with the outdrive off. I pulled the outdrive off again and when manipulating the shifter i get into forward and spinning the drive shaft the prop locks in gear. when i try to do the smae with reverse it just spins freely. My question is did I break something in the outdrive and if so what do I need to fix.

You really aren't supposed to shift out of gear without the input shaft spinning. You may have bent the shift arm where the cable attaches.
