Silent Choice
Hey:
What is the scoop with this settup? cost, advantages, disadvantages, loss of performance, ect. We have new sound ordinances in our area, and I am looking for other options... My boat is kind of loud :D :D  |
My last boat had silent choice. I had no problems with the system at all. But, from what I can see the big disadvantage is being forced to use short risers due to the location of the diverter valves. If your motor is stock, then you will not have a problem. If performance mods. are either already done or planned for the future, then look elsewhere. My present boat has Teague ST450 switchable tips. They work great and allow you to run any kind of riser you want, with the exception of full dry exhaust.

I have the Merc silent choice on my blown motor. No problems. The divertors are actually a little different than the standard divertors. They are located farther back to allow use of the longer riser.

Read the law in your state/area carefully. In Ohio, no switchable exhausts are legal, at best, they will test you with it open. Its not even legal to sell a boat in Ohio with switchable exhaust. I have them but dont open exhausts until I am away from shore. So far-no problems.
