Idle Map STR fault
I keep getting this Idle Map STR fault on my smartcraft monitor for my starboard 600 SCI. My Rhinda isn't picking up any codes. I replaced the MAP sensor, but I'm still getting the error. When the boat is cold no error. As it gets warm, I will get the error. What am I missing here. Is there another MAP sensor other than the one on the side of the intake?

You referring to the MAT sensor ? manifold absolute temp, kind of sounds like your symptoms
|
Nope, the code is IDLE MAP STR. Here is a picture. Once the fault is triggered, my RPMs increase about 100 RPMs and it will run rich.

I'm dumber than the rock I'm sitting on taking a break right now.

I only see one MAP. There are two intake air temps. Before and after. |
Bought the part new. It is part number 8M6000628. As far as I can tell, there is only one MAP sensor, but I have been known to be wrong once or twice. I have a diagnostic manual but that was little help. So I have now ordered a service manual, maybe that will be more informative.

Mine throws that fault once in a while when I first put it in gear after idling a bit when it's hot.
I think it that the IAC can't react quick enough at times to supply enough idle air.. If I touch the throttle just a bit right after I put it in gear it works just fine... |

Mine won't stop beeping once it starts. Do you have to restart or will it self correct and then stop beeping.
I have to shut it off and re-start the engine to get it to quit beeping as well Mark Boos tuned mine.. I sent him an email asking about it, but haven't heard back.. |

Good info sharing guys.
Timing and fueling has alot to do with idle vacuum (map) too, not just iac ....so maybe could have been effected by a program change. |

Mark tuned my computers as well. If you remember, let me know what he tells you. Mine didn't give that fault code until I had them tuned, but that doesn't really mean anything.
My other thought was maybe opening the throttle blades a touch more while watching the IAC duty cycle at idle to get it in the lower % of it's cycle. OR relacing the IAC motors.. Mine ARE original 2003 .. But likely it's just a vacuum drop caused by the load when going in gear and that won't change anything ... I'll let you know if I find anything.. |
My IACs are new this summer. I bought them from MDC, and they were not cheap Chinese junk.
|
I had forgotten all about this 'till I took the boat out the other day...
I called and spoke with Mark, He said it's caused by the ECM not seeing the vacuum value it expects. He can turn off the warning for this.. AS WELL as the warnings for the uninstalled sensors that come up every time I start the engine.. Doug |
Turns out my engines had 600 cams and a 700 tune. I just installed the correct cams. I’m sure I just found out why i was getting non-stop alarms last year.
