Spark Plugs and Gap?
i have a 502 that was rebuilt and added a Side Whipple. What is a recommend spark plug and should i gap differently because it is now running boost?
|
The biggest question is what will your ignition support? Most aftermarket ignition systems will give you a recommended gap for the boost you are running.
|
stock ignition .025-.028"
cd ignition .030-.035" |
I have a question . I’m running a 598 with a performance distributors marine 7000 series. Just called them and they said I can open the gap to what they recommend, .050-.055. It’s naturally aspirated, and I have the gaps set to .035. Is it worth opening it up?

Your mileage may vary. |
D.U.I. Distributers recommend.055 and most of us lost a good deal of top end with that. Pulled it back to .038 and all was good again. I’m no engine builder but just by crowd sourcing info from the internetz that .035-.040 seems to be the widest to go even with hipo ignitions. Results may vary.

Glad you said that. I never noticed the discussions about the DUI gaps. I just put in plugs yesterday and did .055. I just switched em to .038 and gave it a start, seems smoother on choke any way.
Going for a little ride tomorrow, but the weather is supposed to turn bad Friday PM through the holiday. |
I talk about it all the rime. Just like I did just above.
Oh well. |
