MPI Fuel Pumps - Carbed
 

Gen VI 502 MPIs with Cool Fuel (late 1998).

I am scrapping the injection and going with carburetors this winter and I've been trying to get my head around the fuel pump configuration. The plan is to have about 600 HP. Dumb question maybe, but how much power can the factory pumps handle? I'm guessing no one has a pressure-to-volume map for these pumps.

I'm asking about the pump because I'll be really short on room in my bilge. I'd also rather not drill into my stringers. I got some ideas on how to possibly adding electric pumps at the fuel/water separator, but then that brings in potential issues with the pump having to lift fuel.

Thoughts and advice are appreciated.

You can measure output yourself. Keep everything as rigged in boat including psi set that you want but put return line in gas can. Measure how much it fills in 60 seconds while making sure pump has, say 13.5 volts to it. Times that by 60 and you have gallons per hr. :)

So, to really 0 in on it. Using good scale, weigh your 5 gallon container empty. Add exactly 1 gallon of gas (from gas station) or accurate 1 gallon container. Weigh it. Weigh what you pumped minus weight of can. Now you know what your pump pumps per weight and per gallon per minute and per hour. :)

No teal g forces to deal with like a drag carbor etc where thise forces matter too.

So, quite easy for a pleasure boat.
