Exhaust Tips
My Hardin Exhaust Tips came with Rubber Gaskets. Do you use the gaskets or Boat Life caulk the tips to the transom? In the past I never got gaskets for the other tips I've used.
Thanks in advance |
I used 4200 on mine. The boat hasn’t sunk yet but I look forward to hearing it was the wrong choice. ;)

Mine have the rubber gaskets. Has never leaked. No sign of water ever anywhere in the transom.

I used the rubber gaskets against the tips raw and 5200 (forgot to stop for 4200 and didn’t want to leave 😂)between gasket and transom , figured the transom surface wasn’t as flat as the tip flange.

Thanks guys, So 50/50, one with, one without and one1/2 and 1/2. I like the idea of 4200 rather than Boat Life and the I would still be able to get them off, if need be with the 1/2 and 1/2 idea.

I skipped the rubber gaskets because 1) they’re slightly unattractive. 2) I misplaced them at the time of installation. :p
For anyone using just a sealant like 4200, remember to let it set up a few minutes before cinching it down permanently. This allows to become more like rubber before the final torquing. |
