700SCI NTX Transmissions Help

I have a Donzi 38ZR new to me this year and when running it this summer it does not like to come out of gear very easily. You have to really work the shift lever to get it to come out of gear which makes it a real ***** to get back to the dock. The starboard side is worst the the port side. The person a bought it from said he replaced the cables a year before I bought it.
So i was wonder does this sound like cable adjustment to fix the problem or needs new cables. Thanks for any Help.

Could be an adjustment. These are cone clutch style transmissions. Similar to a bravo drive. They are the weak link in these packages. Bam has a nice upgrade to make it a regular style transmission without moving the engines

All the stock NXT packages I have run are hard shifting. Broke two cables on my 37AT.

Maybe need some adjustment but they are hard as a rule IMO

I look at the Bam transmission replacement would my boat handle any different with the Transom extension box?

items 17 and 22 appear to be the bump rings, when they get worn, they can’t dislodge the clutch from the gear, that or the shift fork is where I would be looking

I had a similar issue with mine. It ended up being a cable issue, at the transmission shift lever.
I had to pull with both hands to get that transmission in neutral! lol After the cable replacement, it shifted like butter.

This year at the Destin PR, the transmission stuck in gear (forward, fortunately) - so it was pulled and rebuilt. Shift shaft broken and fork worn. They are certainly the weak-link in this package.

Did you replace them with factory cables or is there a better option for cables then factory?

I don't recall what cables were used, but I do expect that they were the aftermarket. I asked for Teleflex, but honestly never looked once I got the boat back. I originally took it to Big Thunder Marine for trans rebulid, as the symptoms seemed to be related to wear problems. Once they got in to it, the cable was bad. I had them replace every cable on the boat while it was there, as I didn't want to do it myself.
