Recommended Engine Machine Shops in Michigan
 

I am preparing to rebuild a pair of Gen VI 502 marine engines and am looking for a competent machine shop to deal with in Michigan or near by. Any recommendations or warnings are appreciated.

Hold up. You can’t leave us hanging with just that. Now I’m very curious.

Thanks for the input. Maybe I should have explained in the original post that I plan to assemble the engines myself. It appears a lot of the big name marine engine builders only want to do the entire project, not just the machining.

Here is what I have found with the input so far.

• Wesco Racing doesn't want to do just the machining.
• Scorpion Racing Engines doesn't appear to exist any longer.
• I had experience with Tyler Crockett in the past and prefer to deal elsewhere.
• I spoke with Performance Engineering and they sound like a reasonable option but are backed up.
• I haven't been able to speak with the person at Sterling yet as they are only available 9-3.
• I haven't had a chance to talk with Dynamic Speed and Marine.

Thanks for the input and let me know if there are other good options for machining.

I’ve used More Power Racing in Sparta for well over 30 years with absolute great success from very meticulous machining, balancing, assembly, dynoing and much much more. Dick and Duane “the owners” are great. They do much of the work themselves with very few employees so they can stay on top of each and every single job. Big or small.

If you call Dick just tell him John Read told you to contact. You won’t be disappointed. My new short blocks are there now getting machined, balanced and assembled.

I have the same engine and have talked with Dave Smith at CARS in Novi. He is a phenomenons engine builder and has parted mine out to 650hp. You would need to deliver the engine to him. He knows boat engines as well as car engines. I have dealt with him for a long time and trust him implicitly! 248-347-1080

If you are planning a lot of high performance upgrades then I have used Dynamic Speed in Chesterfield MI.
If you are rebuilding the 415 HP 502 black motors I am currently using Chesterfield Engines in Chesterfield MI.

Didn't Ilmor buy into or wholly Scorpion a few years ago?
Thought there was some chatter on that awhile ago.
Did frank go, or on his own now?

Engine Machine work in Michigan
 

If you live anywhere near Bay City Michigan, there is a chap that specializes in BBC machining on Beaver Rd. in two of the bays at the back of Jon Staudacher's shop. Last year he built a BBC for Jon that took his new boat to 120 MPH. Address is 2648 Beaver Rd. Just east of hwy. 13. about 1/2 mile. Google Jon Staudacher and you will get an idea of what you might be in for. Just good stuff.
