Intercooler Installation?
 

When installing an intercooler, can the sea water dump line be tied into an existing overboard fitting like the bildge discharge? Are there any negatives to doing it this way rather than drilling a dedicated fitting?

Ya. Thats what I did. I tested to make sure the water wouldnt flow backwards through the bilge pump.

I simply T'd into the bilge pump discharge line at the overboard hole.

You will need check valves for both lines in the event the bilge is running or to not fill your bilge from the intercooler. Why not just run a line out the side of the boat? Simple to do.

you could put in a fitting on your transom with a hose that feeds your drive shower.

Thanks for the feedback. I am a little "drill shy" about putting holes in my boat. I thought about the bilge outlet because it dumps on the drivers side so that I could see it. I was also wondering about check valves as well. Any other suggestions?

It is by far the best running it out the side. It is just a hole, cut it. Fiberglass is like drywall it can be changed or fixed very easily. Bonus is you can see by looking over the side if everything is ok. You may want a check valve to prevent sea pump from sucking air from the side rather than the water pickup on an open system.

Figure out where you want the fitting. Check inside & out to verify location will be good. Put some masking tape on outside & drill your hole. Just go slow & all will be OK. I would not want to tie into the bilge line. That would be one more thing to go bad.
