block paint

what paint are you guys using to paint the blocks and heads? I just replaced my SBC block out of my donzi and the heads where cleaned. I see they have a couple different paints like the mercusier phantom black and the 3 step paint as well. Which one of these are you guys using? Thanks in advance. Hoping to get the boat in the water before july 4th weekend!

any high temp enamel would be fine…

If black, just any good enamel. For colors, I use a hardened automotive acrylic enamel.

okay thanks. That should work. Just wanted to make sure it matched the other motor the best I could.

I like the high temp ceramic paints. They tend to last longer.

I used black high-heat gloss engine paint (rattle can) on the block and a high-heat rubberized coating over paint on my oil pans to repel water and prevent rust. I also do brush-on touch-ups before dropping in (something always gets scratched).

The most important thing is prep. I clean the block and use a pain prep solvent before I prime it. I used etching primer and Phantom Black this time. I got it fairly cheap... We'll see how it holds up.

This sounds like the best approach i think. These engines dont seem to run too hot. I ordered the OEM 3 stage primer, paint and clear that they use. Ill upload some pics when i get it done over the next week
