Serial Number help Mercruiser 5.0 or 5.7 engine?
I helping a friend look for a used 5.7 or 6.2 roller cam vortec mercruiser engine. He came across a used mercruiser, serial number 0M070026, guy advertising it as "Mercruiser 5.7 engine", but when I run the serial number it comes up as 1999-2001 and shows both 5.0L EFI ALPHA/BRAVO & 5.7L EFI ALPHA/BRAVO (GEN +) ENGINE... What gives? How can a serial number come up as both 5.0 and 5.7 engines?

You have to have a Merc Dealer run the serial number to see exactly what engine it is.

Are there pictures available ? The casting number at the back of the block will tell you immediately if it is a 5.7 or 5.0 block
