Help boat got overheated , doesn’t run right ..
Ok water pump belt broke didn’t know it until I saw smoke and temp gauge pegged …
I took it home and did following .. changed the oil and filter , changed all the spark plugs and ignition coil. Installed block off plate and added new electric fuel pump and changed fuel filter/water separator … boat will start fine , idle fine, rev fine while in neutral . BUT when it’s in the water and I try and accelerate it sputters and misses … It is a 454bbc should I check carb? compression?? |
Oil pressure shows over 40.. fuel pressure is staying around 3 psi. Oil looks good too..
|
your fuel pressure is less than half of what you need

Even at idle ? It was showing that low with mechanical pump also
|
I’ve replaced lines ,filters and checked fitting going to tank . Could it be something in carb

Also where did you mount electrical pump?? they like to to push, they dont pull well. |

Except the mechanical pump pushed more as the rpm increased.....

The way it is wired . It pulls from tank through mounted filter then pushes to carb . Should I re route to pull directly from tank and push through mounted filter to carb
|
I’ve seen people use the pump on big carb trucks so I figured it would work for this
|
Fuel psi not enough. 5-8 is good.
I’ve worked on many engines, including marine, that ate a headgasket over heating. If bad enough can warp surfaces. Sometimes create a trough between cylinders. I’d do a compression test. |
