Here is a snap of our 500efi gauges for reference…

A hand-held infrared thermometer comes in real handy when troubleshooting water/oil temp issues.

Low water press indication could be rust/sand/etc getting into the water press line/fittings. Good practice to remove both ends and blow compressed air thru line (from the gauge end) periodically. Be advised, first time I did this, I got sand in my eyes when disconnecting hose from the water press gauge. I've since learned to close my eyes when disconnecting those hoses!

Water Temp.......What temp T stat is is in it??? Someone could have installed a 120*. Stock HP500 carb is a 140*

Water pressure.......No way you only have 3-4-5 psi at cruise. If you did you'd overheat. I get my water pressure readings from the same location. Not sure why you used that big of hose. All you need is 1/8 poly tubing. My guess is you've got a kink somewhere.

I did just buy a new Faria sender to check this very thought. I replaced my gauges with Faria Beade. I believe the HP 500 used VDO gauges? So you might be right about this. Will find out soon.

Have not removed thermostat housing to verify rating. I have observed the temp gauge readings while running on the muffs. would rise to almost 160-170 and then come down to 140. Once again, maybe the ohms are not in line with the new gauges? I will need to address this as well.

Not sure why, but gauge has never read above 5 psi. I am using 1/8" PVC tubing. It's the small black hose running along the valve cover on the port side. I will look for a kink.

Thanks for the help Griff

I was referring to the PIA to remove from intake if you break it by over tightening it.

Sorry, completely misunderstood your reply.

Thanks for that. Might not be a bad idea for me to do the same.

I do have a hand held thermo gun. I'll see if that says the same as the gauges.

Good call on the compressed air. Will give that a shot too. Thanks

I replaced the oil pressure sending unit with a Faria sender to match my gauges.

I replaced the engine temperature sending unit with Faria to match the gauges. Looking through the manual it looks like there were different values between the OEM and Faria gauges. Also got a larger sender so I don't need the thread adapter. This should put the sender in direct contact with the water. Fingers crossed.

Blew out the water pressure hose with compressed air. Pretty sure there was some type of blockage. It sounded like something shot out and air passed through freely afterwards. Reinstalled the hose, and put slight pressure through the gauge and it functioned fine.

Lake conditions sucked, so I never put it in this week end. Will have to wait to find out if this helps. :(

Doesn't appear anything has changed.

Oil pressure stays pretty consistent around 40 psi except when oil is hot at low idle speed. (about 20 psi)

Water pressure still showing around 3 psi at 3k RPM. Will have to look at pressure while at WOT.

Engine temp still hanging around 120*. It does look like it's hovering around that temp, not just sitting on the peg. So maybe it does have a 120 thermostat installed?

So far I've been pushing it more and more, and nothing has broken. Guess I'm just going to have to call it good for now.

Thanks for the replies.

Stripping the engine down for work to be done, I found the low engine temp problem.

No thermostat installed.

Not even sure how well 1 would work since the intake manifold looks to be eaten away where it would sit.

And just looking through the intake manifold, I can see rust in the intake port of the head.

I got the feeling this will most likely be a complete rebuild.
