Favorite RTR Heads for SBC??

Hey guys,

Not for the boat but for a 28 Chevrolet project- I’m looking at aftermarket ready to run aluminum heads for 350 SBC. Started looking at the Edelbrock and Trick Flow head and cam combos in the 425-450 hp range I’m looking for but production is months out. AFR has some decent looking stuff that is priced well and available for shipping. Anyone here have experience with AFR’s heads right out of the box or have any suggestions?
The short block and 8-71 blower are ready to go so just need to pick heads then cam….

AFR 1001 SBC 195cc Aluminum As Cast Cylinder Head Chevy Straight 64cc

Thanks in advance,
Rick

Profiler and AFR. Not many trust assembled heads from any of the manufacturers.

AFR is about as good as you can get out of the box. That's the route I would go again. Best SBC head out there for all around.

As a note, Those AFR Enforcers are Chinese. If that matters to you. AFR offers them so they coukd offer a low cost line of heads to, as their normal line is much more $$$$.

I re-read your post and didn't realize you spec'd out an AFR head. The enforcer is probably a fine head. I did not know they had an as cast port. In that case I might go the Profiler route at $1263, instead of the AFR 1001 as cast head. Those heads are probably comparable to a vortec head for flow (Which are just fine). I really like the eliminator line of AFR head, and can't press them enough, but are another $6-700.

How small of a cam are you planning on using to get 425-450hp out a SBC with an 8-71 blower? It won't take much. Or is that the hp range without the blower?

Thanks for input guys! The 425sh goal is for baseline before we add the blower .

OK, then you will want to be in the 230-234 intake and 236 to 240 on the exhaust with a 113-114 split (go smaller than larger depending on exhaust). I hope compression is 8.5 or less. You should go with the Profilers or step up to the AFR eliminator. I have a Procharged small block in my boat (413cid, 8.5 comp, AFR210 cam is like a 232/240), I made 460ish on the dyno before the procharger (620). Runs real nice. What exhaust are you going to run? **Edit**, Oh right not a boat, then you can stick a little bigger 238/246ish cam but probably stick to a 112-114 split.

Check out speierracingheads.com Chad Speier is an incredibly talented head porter. He offers an as-cast Profiler 195 with better components tailored to your setup rather than the off-the-shelf profiler. Chad does his own valve job which is worth a few more cfm than the std. Profiler as well. Just bought a set this spring of his S-Factor 195 with LS 8mm valves and "econo-ported" from him this spring with BTR dual springs. Added about 60 hp over the worked over Pro-Maxx cnc ported 183cc heads I had on my 394sbc. With Chad's attention to detail you can confidently bolt them on and go. ACrooks cam recommendation above will get you right where you want with power and still be very well mannered on the street.

Forgot about Chad. If you can get them from him, even better.
