Soft intake gaskets

Hey guys. Putting my new engines in and noticed the starboard engine’s intake gaskets are really wet. It has closed cooling and sat for a couple month with water in it, though not full. Pulling the hoses and head exchanger to install today and found a lot of corrosion of the thermostat housing. The gaskets also have a gritty feeling. The intake gaskets are from Mr Gasket and matchup properly with my AFR head water ports.

Any ideas? I’m ready to pull the intake to see what’s going on.

I use Mr Gasket 121 and 122's and they always seem to wick water up them. Never had an issue just annoying. I don't know if it is right or wrong.

Got it. 121 on these.

They’re a cellulose fiber composite per Mr Gasket specs so I guess they’re susceptible to humidity. I made sure to recheck intake torque after the first cycle… got a half turn or so out of most bolts.

Oil is clean and it held 14 lbs of pressure. I guess they’re good. I was going to snatch the intake to check. I’ve got better things to do!

Thanks again Rookie!
