HP 500 carb distributer wiring??
 

just picked up a fountain 27 with a hp 500 carburated motor. was poking around distributor timing it and noticed a few stray wires.
-one is a purple with white stripe female bullet connector with a plug in it in a wire loom with gray wire and purple wire(to coil)
-the other 2 are purple and purple with yellow stripe with ring connectors

distributor has white and red and white and gray? going to it and a purple wire plugged in under distributor base

You need to ground the purple and white wire with the plug in it to set the timing. This puts it in base timing mode. Once set un ground it and replace the plug.

Ok that makes sense. But what about the other 2 wires. Purple with yellow and purple

Those I am unsure of off hand. Don't have the correct manual with me at the moment.

Those are supposed to go to a switch on the thermostat housing, supplies power to the carburetor choke when oil pressure is above a set #
