Yes “ another junk azz msd dist”
With help from another local OSO member I discovered after going through and replacing all wiring etc I finally discovered my issue with literally tapping/HAMMERING on the side of the distributor. Purchased new 6-8 years ago but didn’t install until last fall. Started car 6-8 times since. (Project car). 69 mustang. 351 Windsor.
MSD pro billet “whatever”. The ignition box cked out fine but no spark. Well until I did the above. 😂 it’s a magnetic pick up and just looking for a good replacement distributor. I do not want this in my car regardless. Just looking for a good replacement. Any suggestions. The box is from the early 80’s and just fine. 6T I believe. Yes my marine 565’s are rigged with Daytona sensors. |
Btw. When I did get spark after the beating the car fired up momentarily then stalled. I thought possibly from flooding but no. I cked the ohms right there after on the distributor and were way under the operating range. Tried a few more hits but no change. I’m currently a part of the MSD hater club. Lol

Stuff like that can drive a person crazy! glad you found it!
As far as Dizzy suggestions, I just don't know what's out there now days, I've always used OEM stuff and Merc in the boats. But I hope someone will chime in with a good suggestion. Is Holley stuff all MSD? or actual Holley stuff? |

There's only a magnetic pickup inside, it's just a wire wrapped around a magnet. I've had the wire break on pickups before so every once in awhile (7 years) I drop in a new pickup. Not much can go wrong on these. Easy to check with a meter as well. I broke a magnet on one so I re-used an old one. Have someone crank the motor with your meter set on mV and you should get a reading for each cylinder.

I did replace the mag pu and all good. The other one was giving me all kinds of goofy readings. Just wouldn’t expect that to go so quickly on a new dist but gonna keep a spare one on the glove box. No bigggy. |
