That’s funny. I think about it nonstop. I’m not looking for big numbers rather a good tune. The shop I’m dynoing at is notoriously 5 to 10% lower than others in the area but that’s fine. They should make some good power though considering the combo. 💪🏽👍

edit: It’s been a long time in the making but it’s finally near ready (12m & engines). For the last several years my melon was so messed up I didn’t know whether to buy boat/engine parts, food or ammo. Plus I finance nothing!!! Finally on track…

What are you using for a FA? Its VERY important to see how it affects your afrs on your cylinders. We dynoed a 540 today with mildly worked 317 promaxes, vic jr, muffled we were at 650+ hp/650 + ft lbs of tq. Using a custom 4150 norm built, afrs were .8 to 1.2 points a parts, no FA. bolted the customers billet oval fa on and here we go again, afrs 3.5 points leanest to richest. Added a 2" TBI pickup truck spacer under it thinking maybe it will let whatever turbulence its causing stabilize, yeah buddy, now # 5 was 15.5-1 at wot. back to drawing board, gotta find a FA for 4150/4500 that does NOT have a square edge inside where air turns to go in the carb!

You try a 14x4” k&n on anything ? The typical round 10x3’s kinda suck power wise. We are on dusty dirt roads so i try to get k&n’s on those carb’d engines without docks.

Smitty, As I recall Jim's oval FA didn't affect cylinder to cylinder AFR and maintained same power as no arrestor. Was this cause of my multi-port injection.

Pretty much. FI does not use boosters. Boosters are effected by airflow and airflow direction.
Intake manifold also effects a/f ratio cyl vs cyl, but this discussion is not about that.

Make sure that More Power dosen't dyno your engine with 2.5 gallons too much oil like they did mine.

Whoa say what? Damm!!! I do all the majority of the work but will definitely keep that in mind. I practically grew up there living only 2 miles away but Dick and Duane are getting up there in age but great guys and always done great work for me. Sorry that happened to you…. Blow some seals etc?

I’ll have to mention that to them. I see you only have one post. What engine was it?

This was 10+ years ago a pretty serious 598 solid roller Valykeo heads. I Had them assemble the short block because everything was new and needed to be machined to fit. I picked it up and finished assembly, it had a 14 quart Steffs oil pan which I put 12 quarts in and had a large note written on 2" tape 12 quarts of oil already in engine. When I brought it back for dyno I also gave them a case of oil to top it off after it was hooked up and running. While dynoing they couldn't figure out why the oil was foaming and the front seal was leaking. Needless to say the numbers were not as good as hoped for. The next day when I went to pick up the engine I asked for the rest of my oil, that's when I was told it was all put in the engine. 24 quarts in a 14 quart pan probably why the numbers were lower than expected. Good thing I spent the extra money for the fancy Steffs pan to keep the oil off the crank. Other mistakes were made.

In hindsight if you knew they couldn't read you would of just given them 2 quarts
