Exterior engine saltwater protection
 

Moving a new to me boat from fresh to salt. Boat has closed cooling.
Motors are currently out. Considering coating oil pans with truck bediner. I've used the rattle can stuff on brackets etc in salt with great success. Also thinking about covering the lower half of the engines with Fluid Film.

Any ideas appreciated.

Bed liner… no way IMO water always gets under it unless it’s linex

good paint and keeping it clean w/ a corrosion x or similar spray works well

Ive used on parts submerged in salt for years with great results. Transom brackets, transom plates, trailer parts including axles, etc. LineX is tougher for abrasion but this wont see anything like that.

Enamel paint. Clean parts real good. Put primer on it. Use high heat enamel. Put several coats on. I’m building an LS for salt water right now.

painted oil pan, block, front cover, rear cover, heads, valley plate, valve covers, exhaust manifolds, bell housing. In short if it was metal it got primed and painted.

aluminum gets this white oxide “rust” on it. Rust oleum makes a good aluminum primer in aerosol. And I’ve used various brands of enamel with good success. Just get a good bond to start with.

NOTE: I would not do anything to stainless.
