1/2 latham steering system
I have 2002 vyper half system if i loose starboard motor i have zero power steering. Sounds pretty dangerous. Only way around this is a full conversion or a special two pump Valve and tank with hoses to each pump. Did they really design it like this? If you are cruising along and starboard quits the drive locks up in what ever direction it was in.

it's pretty standard. You can steer, it's just very, very hard.
|
Are you saying that you have the half system that still uses the cable helm? If so, get a hydraulic helm and run the lines to make it full hydraulic. You won't regret it.
|
I wondered that as well, but assumed they were mixing the terms 1/2 hydraulic actual (cable + ram) with 1/2 being "only a pump on 1 engine. "
|
Nearly all boats are set up with PS on only one engine. If that engine dies, you can still steer, it just doesn't have power assist.
|
You either have a ADD ON steering system or full hydraulic with a hydraulic helm (orbital).
As said above one power steering pump running either is common. |

get rid of that cable. Full Hydro is great. I can steer without the engine on, but my arms would be shot after a few miles that's for sure.
Dual power steering pumps are possible, and can be done, but you'd be better off spending the $ getting rid of that cable. |
