Mark IV 496 blower motor build

Anybody here built a 454 into a 496 with a blower? I need to know what HP levels your at and what pistons you used.

what blower?
I did whipple 496ci engines using eagle forged rotating assemblies w/ flat top pistons(around 9-1 compr. ratio),did those in 2005 and still running today.

since most people are running blowers for forced induction, my application is similar, but Im actually running turbos. What variety of pistons were they (IE 4032 vs 2618)

JE or compatible - 2618 will be your best bet. 4032 is a little more brittle with the higher silicone content and be more apt to brake under higher HP or blown apps.

That is where my conundrum is. My builder wants to hone the blocks to 4.320. My target HP is 600 hp with wanting the ability to turn it up to 750 by adjusting the wastegates up. Im using port EFI now with the ECU controlling spark. The JE 4032 pistons are about $800, and the JE 2016's are about twice as much, but I dont know if i need the 2016's for my application.

They would probably be ok with mild running manners but never seems to happen for many especially if your looking for more power. What’s your builder recommending. That’s what I’d tend to go with otherwise he’ll say “see I told you so”. And that’s something you want to avoid at all costs you can possibly afford.

have you looked at Wiseco , Ive used their coated pistons but not in a turbo application

I tore down a couple blown 468’s with those and they were fine other that the bad fuel and way to much boost for the octane. Even then it only wiped one out. Was amazed they weren’t all destroyed under the circumstances. Ran them in all my 2 strokes for ever.

people do get carried away in my opinion on the 4032 vs 2618 piston question, heres what I feel, people MISTAKE "good" 4032 pistons like JE SRP's for cheap cast pistons. I have ran 4032 srps with boost tuned properly and have never broke one, talking like 6, 8 psi, NOT 12 or 14. I got a guy I built whippled 454s making 730 ish hp whos been runn9ing them for 2 full seasons, Ive ran them in my own stuff before I made "big" power.
Thing to keep in mind is 1000's upon 1000s of people are currently running 4032s in there whippled 500/525s that are still original bottom ends, the JE 700 series mercruiser/GM uses are just 4032 pistons fwiw, a bad injector, bad tune will kill either piston, just will kill a 4032 slightly faster, Smitty
