2005 496 mag crank no start
No start hot or cold until I spay fuel into it, catches then runs perfect. Got 42# at the rail while cranking.
Just bought this Baja and have no history on it any help would be appreciated. My scanner won't be here for a few days |
Not a lot of info but heres what came from 10 years of 496's gremlins...
Maybe: -Get injectors cleaned -Check battery voltage(If its less than 12.6v 496's do some crazy stuff) -496's have had issues with the cool fuel where paint ends up in the fuel rails. Maybe they dont build enough flow till it starts? -IAC Valve? -Could it be the fuel? Was it sitting? -Fuel water separator? |
The fuel is old but looks and smells fine, changed the fuel filters and the old ones looked good.. Plenty of voltage.
Thanks for the input |
43psi is correct. Techmate will allow you to test crank position sensor, injectors, coil packs. U will need spark gap test tool to check coil spark.
If old fuel, pump out and get rid of it. Use a remote 5 gal can w/ fresh fuel to test run engine. |
Will it start if you give it a slight bit of throttle?
What's the serial number? |
Nope to throttle and don't know the number, haven't got my head in that deep, would probably be an 0W something.
|
0W covers 4 different revisions
My thought is the ECM is not seeing something to turn the injectors ON. With some fuel provided it sees something that causes it to turn ON. Could also be in part weak spark Do you see the Tach showing anything when cranking? |
how old is fuel?
|
More progress, engine number 0w317009, yes tack moves while cranking. No codes stored.
Runs real smooth when runs. Maybe thinking throw a CKP in it for starters.? |
