You are correct on my fuel system.

I understand the difference in the merc setup. Don't The boats that have this problem, (i never did on my 496ho), have the problem with no ethanol as well?

My boat would vapor lock much more frequently with E10 fuel. If it was 90*+ and humid, it would vapor lock easily with E10. With non ethanol fuel, it rarely happens.

.I have been using 15% ethanol for couple years in my twin 540 merlins in my 35 Fountain,, but I always use 93 octane,,never had a vapor lock,,never had any problems with any gaskets or rubber parts,,my fuel line is routed away from the engine so I have a couple inches of air gap ,,the old 454 and 502 mag fuel injected engines would vapor lock on straight gasoline so vapor lock is not new ,,move the fuel line or insulate it for vapor lock protection. ,Merc. doesn't always route fuel lines best as they can be.

Around my house regular gas as of this morning when i filled up was $4.54/gal
E85 at that same station was $4.15/gal
So at my 26 gal that i filled up on, it was $118.04 and it would have been $107.90 for E85
I get on average around 13mpg on reg gas
when i have run the E86 im down to 10mpg
so if i was to run my truck all the down on those 26 gallons i would be getting 338miles to a tank on reg gas but only 260 on the E85
So im loosing 78 miles just to save $10.14?
Even if i had extra fuel jug in the truck and used up that $10.14 differance and got an extra 2.4gal of E85 I could only go another 24 miles....still 53 miles short from using reg gas....
So where exactly is the benefit of this stuff? I can understand for racing purposes due to the higher octane of the E85 but daily driving i just dont see the benefit of it...

for along time around here. E85 was 70% of price of 87 (like 1.79 when 87 was 2.49) and it was a bout a wash to run it with exception of less range per tank. Now it like 3.99 and 97 is 4.10, I havent kept up on the government subsidies but at one point I remember reading the producers were subsidized in some way, I think thats GONE!

Been using it in our vehicles for about 2 years now and no issues. Our 2016 Yukon w/6.2 does well. I have used 87/89/93 and E15 and fuel miles/gal all +/- about 1-2mpg. Would it work in a boat engine... don't know because mercury only approves 10%. Would there be any issues for freshwater boats... don't know? Saltwater boats...then I think YES!
