Alpha drive HELP

Alright guys,
I need to change my drive fluid and I only see one fluid vent opening on the drive. I thought there was suppose to be two? I usually have the fluid changed for me each year when its winterized but I forgot to tell him to this year.

I've got the boat already to do this and well, its not going as planned.

HELP!!

Oh yeah, what drive fluid are you guys using? Got to make sure I'm using the right stuff

Isn't there one on the bottom case? I can't remember. It has been a while since I worked on an Alpha. I think it is in the area where a nose cone would be attached. Possibly on the bottom of the bullet. I think??

Red Stripe. remove the prop. Look inside and you'll see a screw, straight blade screwdriver should remove. That's how it is on my Bravo 1. Later, 88

Yea ,on the bottom front of the bullet. Some bravos had the drain in front of the prop. not sure if any alphas did. Take the prop off and look there if you dont find it in the front lower part of the bullet

Alpha drive, the drain plug is at the front of the bullet. I see you have a nose cone, I hope whoever installed it didn`t block the drain plug with the cone! I`ve seen it too many times!

If the drain plug is not filled in, remove it and remove the vent plug, let the drive drain and fill the drive through the drain plug until the lube is running out the vent.

Good luck, Kurt.

Yup bro, it should be on the bottom front of the bullet on the passangers side. The nosecone I have had a hole in it for the drain plug, just had to line it up.

I know when i put the drain plug in I then fill the hole with rtv to make it smooth with the gearcase. Could yours just have something in the hole to make it flush with the gearcase?

Yep, Bottom front! Dang, why didn't I see that?

Thanks alot everyone!!

Make sure the drive is level when filling it!
Allways put on NEW seals for the screws as that is were the water is most likely to enter the oil cavity

I have been told to use only Merc. drive fluid in Merc. outdrives. I got a little pump that screws on the top of the bottle of fluid and fill from the bottom to top. This eliminates air bubbles. I think Overtons sells the pump.
