Rotation
Ok, still learning as I always will be. Maybe a dumb question here but my flame arrestor cover on my ‘90 Merc 454 magnum/Bravo 1. says it is a LH left hand rotation but I had someone tell me my drive is a right hand?! (Shopping for a prop so I was looking at left hand rotation) I seek wisdom lol.

either direction) what rotation they’re set to run is determined by shift cable position at the shifter. |
A Bravo 1 can be run in either direction. You just need to switch the cables at the shift levers next to the driver. I can't help with which direction is best for your boat...Hopefully someone with personal experience will chime in. For testing purposes you don't need to switch cables just remember every thing is backward when shifting.

you should be able to tell the rotation by looking at the blade pitch on the prop

The confusing thing is that for a marine engine the rotation is determined by looking at the flywheel end and LH is considered standard.
One thing to clarify - a Bravo drive only works with standard (LH) engine rotation and as pointed out above the prop rotation is determined by the cable. In general RH prop rotation is standard even though some boat manufacturers use LH. Back in the day Fountain was one of them not sure if that is still the case. |
