Thoughts on the Formula 382 SR1?
 

Anyone here own a 382 SR1? The Good, bad, any issues? Currently in a 292 Fastech and looking to go bigger but can't afford a 382 Fastech. I know theyre not the fastest boats but im more concerned with the ride quality on lake Michigan. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

not the same but similar animals at 37'7 with bolted swim platform
as stated not the fastest but i am sure the ride of yours will be equal if not better. They are roomy boat with nice finish.

I had a 382 fastech and a buddy had a 382 SR1. We both had built/aftermarket power so it was tough to gauge speeds but we felt the stepped hull added about 4-5 mph. Ride quality didn't seem much different, maybe slightly better with the SR1? It seemed like he had more headroom in the cabin but we weren't sure. Nothing wrong with the boats other than the black dashes look dated (well hell, even the fastechs looked dated in 2022! LOL)

if I get one the dash will get painted for sure, can't stand the black dash in my friends 336!

Make sure to lookout for rot.

Transoms even on the Fastech are wood, but the composite stinger grid supposedly didn't show up until the Fastech boats.... meaning... there's wood under the deck and in the stringers. I don't think it's as big of an issue as with the the older SR1 boats, but still be mindful.

Big boat and really heavy - plan on a truck upgrade if you're trailering with a 3/4 ton.

Unfortunately, im all to familiar with wet and rotted hulls. Ive had two boats in the past that rotted out (wellcraft bowrider and scarab) that went to the graveyard. Im in the middle of re-rigging my 292 fastech because the transom got wet and had to be replaced. I picked up a decent moisture meter a couple weeks ago for my next boat search. I plan on checking as much as I can reach. Also gonna do the hammer tap test. Im beyond paranoid because of past experiences about wetness and rot.
Right now I have a 2018 Duramax 3500 SRW. If I feel it's not enough truck I will definitely get a dually.

Truck will be good though a dually would add some stability. The truck is for sure capable of pulling and stopping.

What moisture meter did you get?

On the topic of transom's the fastech will likely be much harder to replace with the molded swim platform vs the bolt on. I'm not a fan of the grid system used on the fastech's and think the old stringer and bulkhead design is better. Seems like the grid system was more designed more to save time and labor cost, rather than to make a stronger boat. I've also read it's difficult to fix when there is a problem. Regardless, I'd probably still get a fastech over an older SR1 if you set on formula's. There is a 390 velocity for like $85K here on OSO seems like a good deal.

glassdave did my transom and he said he probably won't do another fastech transom again after doing mine. From the pictures he sent me and what he explained, it was definitely alot more difficult than a traditional stringer boat. I'm trying to stay in a budget of around $60k since that's what my 292 will probably fetch.
