My guess in SB's theory is stainless nuts and stacking order is isolating battery terminal. only the threaded portion is conductive.
What say you SB?

The main leads are in contact with the lead. (or it so appears from pics) Surely the lead is conductive, hence the top post terminals in addition to the studs.
Never seen a battery post made of lead that isn't conductive.

Stainless is also conductive.
I've always had stainless nuts on my batteries, no issue.
What issues did you have?

Going by pictures on my small phone, his battery cable eyelets look like crap, so was wondering if he changed trim connector location , in relationship to battery cable connectors, if anything would change.

Maybe batt cable connectors kind of okay on one side vs other side.

So not to hijack thread but are stainless nuts on battery terminals are a no no?

IMO, a resounding hell no! False
12 years I've owned my boat it's always had stainless nuts on them.
I don't know why anyone would use anything but in a marine environment.
To be honest never checked the studs but always assumed and they appear to be stainless on marine batteries.

Eager to hear why J272 thinks otherwise and the issues he had.

That's funny because all the batteries I bought for my boat came with stainless. 27 years of running the same boat with no issues.

I work on boats everyday, from tenders to 80’ yachts, they ALL have stainless nuts on the batteries. Wing nuts are a no-no, stainless hex nuts are not an issue.

Stainless is not conductive. But using them on a battery is not an issue as long as you don’t have a SS nut sandwiched between cables terminals. Every battery I’ve bought new has had SS nuts on them. Battery posts are lead, not SS.

Back to OP, sounds like the trim motor solenoid is faulty and drawing too much current from batt without motor running and alternator supplying more juice.
