V6-14 module is same as v8-24

Hey guys just swapped my ignition module to try to help my idle. I have 30 over 454 with a forged crank and hbeam rods with je blower pistons with 8to1 compression ratio. It has stock 088 heads with roller rockers and a 500efi cam. With an m2 procharger the idle is fair at best. I threw on the different ignition module and retimed the engine and the distributor is in the same position. I revved it to 3600 rpm and locked it at 30 degrees total.

Did I time it wrong or could the module be bad ? I'm just not sure what was going on.

Not sure what you have going on or why the timing is like that. A V6-14 module only gives about 10* of advance on a V8 engine and is at full advance around 2000rpms

That's what I was hoping for. I don't know if something is wrong with the module. What is the correct way to time it just to make sure I'm doing it correctly?

I'm guessing the idle is high enough that the advance is already kicking in so when you put the light on it you are not seeing where it actually starts at.

A V6 module is seeing one more pulse per revolution than it was designed for so it sees the RPM as 33% higher than it actually is, To see the actual base timing you probably have to lower the idle to the point where the engine is barely running, then the last few flashes before it dies are actually the base.

That's why timing for full advance is better. Hopefully your balancer is degreed.

Also use an old school timing light, nothing with the ability to measure advance. I tested a bunch of them on my distributor machine back in the day and they are not very accurate.

With the v6-14 module, on s v8 it starts advancing at about 650rpm and is all in about 2200rpm. The module only adds 10* timing. Several peeps, including the one I have, adds 9*f.

Here is info on th merc ign systems including advance curves of many if the modules. For the v6-14 you’ll have to do quick math to convert from 6cyl to 8 cyl.

I set it to 30 degrees at 3600 rpm but idling at 800ish the timing is only 10 degrees. I'm really confused and wondering if I got a bad one.

Almost sounds like a v8-hp module. Weird.
