496 MAG HO - Service Manual
 

Currently I have the Mercury Service Manual Number 23 that covers the 454 7.4L & 502 8.2L. Does anyone know what the item number is for the service manual that covers the 496 mag ho, or possibly have a pdf version of it? I'm not looking for the user manual, but the actual service manual that defines clearances and specifications, ect...

Only difference is the camshaft. Bottom ends and heads are identical.

This depends on the model year. Prior to ~'01-'02, the HOs had forged crank and rods. After, they had cast. There was a transition period where you have to run the serial numbers to be sure what you've got. I called Merc and spoke to a service tech. He ran my numbers and confirmed mine was built with forged, but he couldn't tell me without running the serial numbers because it was built in '01.

The ECM flash was also obviously different between the base 496 and the HO, to accommodate the bigger cam.

Slightly bigger airbleed hole in the throttle plate as well for the HO.
