Engine ventilation Q about 28 Cigarette?
On my boat there are two fiberglass scoops on the engine hatch that I want to take off and glass over so I can have one big sunpad.
My question is, will the vents on the sides of the deck provide the engines (300hp. SBC's) with enough air to function properley? I have seen many pics of 28's with nothing but theese vents on the sides. Sean's was one of them. Lets hear some opinions. |
Thrillseeker, on my 28ss i have the big scoops that i want to remove for a sunpad. I also have holes behind the rear seat in the bulkhead (4"x 8" ) for air to engines. I think this should be plenty of air. I presently have 300hp but will be upping them to around 400hp this winter.

ventilation on 28ss
on my 28ss i have a raised hatch but completly closed only the 2 vents on each side of the boat. it has small blocks at 400 hp each and the boat runs great, i dont see a problem with covering those scoops. hope this helps

How about venting under the rear seat, behind the passengers ankles???? Have seen many power boats with aprox. 2" holes drilled there.
It will probably run fine without scoops, but remember that you have two "air pumps" in the engine compartment. They use ALOT of air and "cooler" dense air is more benifical for more power. My $.02 |
