Thunderbolt V Ignition
I have a new 8.2 marine long block 425HP. I have taken all of the accessories off my 96 7.4 carbonated engine and installed them on the new engine with a new Quick Fuel 800 CFM marine carb. My question is can I install the distributor 180 degrees rotated as long as I have the firing order correct. The original distributor has the ignition module mounted on the side of the distributor which is in the was of the new throttle linkage

Yup, no problem. The module only knows rpm. At min, since your moving positions on the cap, I’d mark your new #1 cyl spot. Since the cap is molded with the cyl positions, maybe put properly #’d decals over them, or hand paint with white out. # clips on wires always easy too. We all think only we will touch our engines, but you never know what the future brings.

A distributor can be mounted in any position. You just have to find TDC on Cylinder #1 and start your plug wire firing order where the rotor is pointing.

Thanks, I thought so I just wanted to verify before I went through the excersize.

Long block question
Hi Nit trying to hi-jack your post - I was curious about who/price you got the long block from?
Thx in advance |
Marineenginesforless.com $8,100.00 last year. It came with the harmonic balancer and flywheel
