Exhaust advice...
6 Attachment(s)
2007 Volvo Penta 8.1 Gi.
I have a chance to buy a pair of low-hour aluminum Mercruiser manifolds and stainless risers @ $1k. Problem is... they are not VP.... and I will additionally require 6" Merc spacer blocks to get the risers high enough... which is approx another $1k. (My engine sits pretty low in the hull and the VP exhaust has 6" spacers also.) So... I would be into a Mercruiser system for around $2k... Would I be better off with a Stainless Marine system that is made specific to the VP @ $3400 ??? or should I try to make the Merc stuff work ? I know CMI is an option too... but those bad boys are North of $5k. Thoughts ? |
I'd go with Stainless Marine. The Merc exhaust isn't bad, but it's heavier compared to SM. The SM parts also have a great warranty and last forever.

Marine surplus in Sarasota used to have new mercuiser 496 risers with 6" extra height. Give them a call. They were a couple hundred bucks.
