My neighbor and I have the dry Stainless Marine Gen III systems with 5" pipes on both of our N/A 509 ci BBC'c.
They will make your ears ring at idle speed while standing near the transom. Just the way we like it. My father had to walk away while we were flushing his engine... Me, I just stood there and smiled :D |
I like a dry exhaust system. A dry system reduces or eliminates the risk of reversion. I think they also sound good. My engines are pretty loud and I must admit that I prefer to wear ear protection (disposible plugs) while on plane and have them available for my passengers.

I have dry CMI tube tops on a 10.5:1 NA 632 that turns 6500. It is stupid loud even at idle. Even after a 4500 rpm cruise your ears are ringing after shut down. On quiet lakes people can definately hear you from over 5 miles away. HP boaters don't mind the noise, but most of the people with cruisers can't stand it, especially in the marinas. So far I haven't had any problems with johnny law, but I don't push my luck going into marinas at 10:00 (or later) at night either. I actually catch more **** for how fast my boat idles.....people think I'm going 10 mph on purpose.:D :D

I'm running gil dry system and it dumps witer into the exhaust at the end and all around the inner pipe. sounds great but jdnca1 said it best "stupid loud." I started my boat once last year at a power washer for someone that wanted to here it and allmost gave the poor lady at the vacuum right behind my boat a heart attack.:D

I made my own dry pipes last summer,
while yes it is loud, I dont know about "stupid loud" Now I do have a swim platform that is over the exhaust tips in the transom and no you cant have captains call, only mufflers will work to quiet it down. I like it, The louder the better I agree Plus my cam has 7 degrees of overlap so it was sort of needed to be dry to prevent reversion. It is an attention getter and I do like it, but be mindful and dont cruise into a marina at 330 AM rumbling your ass off, no one will mind if you are considerate of others. Jason |
