454 / 500ci EFI stroker with full roller valve train
$8000 each. No Core charge on these units.

To clarify they are stroked and bored?

If you want a solid build you can copy mine. I’m in mine less than 8k still have the old motor to sell to offset the cost and will have much more torque/horse power.
454, bored .60 over and stroked 4.25.

Give us a link where you're seeing these things at.

If you want a budget build with the most bang for your buck look at the GM 8.1/Mercury 496. You could probably pull an old 8.1 from a junkyard truck for a couple hundred bucks. A stroker crank and .030 over will get ya to 518. Early Merc 496's had forged cranks, dig up one with a forged crank and just throw some pistons and a Whipple at it and be done. Aftermarket parts are scarce though.

Or shop for a PSI 8.8/535 cubic inch shortblock and slap 8.1 heads/intake/carb on it.
4.350" bore x 4.500" stroke. That has to be a 500hp combo (with correct camshaft) without even trying.

For sure, many budget PSI options! The PSI 4.5" crank drops in the 8.1 as well, giving you 518 cubes at .030 over. An easy way to build a solid 525+ motor on a budget.....mainly because the 496 manifolds will make up to 530ish HP without a set of 6k CMI's! 🤣

Well I want to upgrade in stages but I found a long block no intake, exhaust manifolds. It's a 500..535hp long block. Plan is to keep it carb. So what manifold is best? And then stainless marine for exhaust manifolds. From there I'm going to run it for the rest of the year that way. Its rite at 8k for a fresh longblock. I guess a 500 is what block? 454 bored and stroked? Or is it a destroyed 502? **** if I know. Like I said this marine stuff is different. Long term 088 heads are what are in those engines? Long term do I keep them or go afr 265?

088 heads are pretty standard BBC factory heads in the forged marine crate engines.
2.19/1.88 in/ex valves. They are a 320cc ish port and a 118or 119 chamber.
They flow relatively well for stock GM heads, but the Achilles Heal is the poor exhaust port. Mild porting cleanup would help them for sure.

They have poor flow for the port size, so will have issues with velocity at lower rpm.

A lot of cost to upgrade to AFR 265s. The flow numbers and velocity coming from some the aftermarket heads is pretty good. A 290cc or even a bit larger may be more worthwhile of an upgrade. Certainly if you go the 496 stroker route in the future.

I've got 088s, but have them fed with blowers, that puts a bit more velocity in them at lower rpm...I have a fight coming up with the exh ports though...grudge match!! I have a feeling I'm going to hate porting cast iron after this.

If I replace the 088s, I was looking at the 317cc Promaxx or something similar. I may be happy with 550-600 NA, and remove 300 lbs of blower and iron heads.
