on board remote oil changing kits??
 

Since my engine is out and I have access to the oil pan I want to install a better way to change the oil other than through the dip stick tube. I see the kits that you have to pull it out the the hull drain plug but that requires removing the boat form the water. My boat is in for the season so I was curious if I can use one of the oil pan drain hose kits that can attach to an electric pump?

My engine is a Gen6 so from what I researched the pan plug is a 12mm I just need to confirm that. What do you guys do for oil changes? I want to fire it up with a high zinc break-in oil then drop it for a good quality non-synthetic oil for a few hours then drop it again to ensure all the break-in glitter is out. I know it is a roller motor so way overkill but im still going to do it and I dont want to have to pull the boat each time I want to change the oil.

The drain hose in the pan works well with whatever type of fluid extractor you want to use. Just need to install the correct fitting on your machine.

I have been using one of these for years and it holds enough oil to do both engines.

Funny you posted this I just changed my last night. I have the same type of hoses, connected them to a hydraulic quick disconnect.

The other side of the quick disconnect is on my electric pump hose. I have the type that is on a 5 gallon pail lid.
Set it on the cockpit floor and pump away. Very easy and I can do it wile the boat is on the lift. Just make sure you secure that hose well and keep it from rubbing, it would suck to rub through, I have had mine for 10 years now.

Inquiring minds If you use mobil 1 15w-50 (synthetic) or similar, how many hrs do your engines run that you have to change oil during the season ?

It is the Metric 12mm kit that is needed.

When the oil is warmed up sonewhat, it’s amazing how much faster a hand pump thru dipstick oil sucking thing pumps.

i have used this one for 20 or do oil changes a year for around 25 yrs.

Again, air temp oil takes a while, warm to hot oil is quick.

Speaking of drains, not oil related but so I JUST found out last week the 502 Block form my boat is cracked in a water jacket and could not find a good used 502 block local and quick. Summit Racing had a brand new GM Performance 502 block in stock so I had one shipped to the machine shop should be there today. I was just thinking will this block have drain provisions to drain the water come winter season being it is not a marine specific block?

Yes, every block I have seen has the drains right above the oil pan rails.
