Lathem throttles / Dominator carb/ 33c cable
 

Hello All,

Anyone have experience setting up Latham Marine throttles with the 33c cables on a Holly 4500 dominator? The 33c cable has approx 3" of travel. The Latham controls swing with the same range according to Latham. The Dominator linkage is not the same as 4150's. The connection point on the Dom linkage is closer to the throttle plate axis netting less travel.

Are there others out there that have dealt with this? I am going to set mine up with full throttle on the stilck and carb and let the idle position be whatever it ends up being. My sticks will look like they are 1/3 open when in fact the carb is actually at an idle.
Just curious what others ended up doing if anything.

call who ever makes the carb and ask them if they make any throttle lever extensions....if not you can fab one up to get the throw to be correct....simple metal plate with holes in it...

On my outboards, I set it up the other way around: the throttle levers cannot travel all the way forward.

I asked Latham when discussing some other things, and they said that it is as expected.

that was my first thought as well, but i have some clearance issue to contend with making that more challenging than you would think.

Same thing hear with Latham Controls on my 502mpi's. Mine prob go 80% forward.

That is pretty much the same scenario on 90% of boats.

Thanks. So it is part of the combo and to be expected it would seem. I will try to fab a bracket but will have to deal with a tight area under the air cleaner.
As far as adjustments,... I like the look and feel of the throttle starting from a standard idle position, but i'm concerned i might lean on the carb shafts over time if the carb assembly is what sets the limit (range). It has been recommend i bottom out the sticks (WOT) and set carb to wide open and let the idle end up where it wants to. It would look like the throttles are pushed slightly forward at idle. In my case about a 1/4-1/3 open Seems like a better idea but don't like the visual.. I would be constantly triple checking the throttles prior to a start not believing they were at idle.. .. Any thoughts?

Virtually no brand of throttles ever achieve full throw from idle to WOT. The throw can sometimes be increased or decreased by using different mounting locations on the carb throttle arm. The normal way to set them up is when pulled all the way back, you are at idle or close to it and let the forward WOT land where it may. I'd set them so you are at idle with them about a 1/8" from being fully pulled back. No way to adjust on MPI's and mine go from all the way pulled back to about 3/4 of available throw.
