That’s pretty messed up. Ushering in to the AI world also. The craziness is only beginning. Like Charles Schwab said at the most recent annual WEF (world economic forum) meeting - we are in for a “cyber pandemic” that will make Covid seem like a day in the park. BTW they predicted that also!!!

I'm old enough to remember a world without cell phones and internet.
While I love wasting time on both... I firmly believe the world would be a better place without either of them. |
OffshoreOnly could do a better job protecting the site and its members. I think the ownership should start there.
Interesting… When you search for OffshoreOnly via Google etc, it now shows up as “OffshoreOnly- Boating Discussion. Since when did OSO become a general “boating discussion” forum? This place is about about going fast - eat or be eaten. WTH?! Sorry you got wrapped up in the scammer bs, Smitty. |

If you have 5 failed login attempts, you are locked out for 15 mins. A hacker got lucky or had lot of time on his hands. A complex unique password is much harder to hack and IMO, it is up to the member on how simple or complex they want their password to be. |
Let’s see…
Two-factor/Multi-factor authentication would be a good start (would probably keep out the spam accounts, too). More stringent password complexity requirements? Combined with MFA would be a really good way to secure an account. Notification to the account holder that login attempts have failed and that the account is locked requiring intervention from the user? My intent wasn’t to come off as a dick about it but in hindsight I probably did. On the other hand, I pay to use the site and expect my account to be properly secured by the providers of the service. |
People can make their password as strong as they like and change it as often as they like.
No reason to force 10,000+ members to change their password for an isolated incident. OSO is a boating forum not a bank account. |
