496 mag ho suspicious performance
 

Hey guy!

bought an outlaw 25 with 496 mag ho last year … tested it last summer and reached pretty good speed at aroud 65 mph … so this year i put it back on water … a fee day ago i remarked having problem going close to 60 … and yesterday i had same issue reaching 55 mph after thinking about it i remembered hearing an alarm about two minutes after cold start … i beeped like two times then stopped … so i read about guardian mode … how can i know whats going on … is it really on guardian mode ??? Idle is good but just not performing as it should

You need to scan it to see if it's in guardian mode.

Sorry,,..no shortcuts with a 496 alarm. Scan it.

can mercury vessel view scan these ? Im planning on go and buy one this afternoon

What year is your 496? 2001?

My 2002 was not smart craft capable even though it said it on the engine cover. A call to very good mercury tech lead to the discovery.

Might want to check before you buy the vessel view.

people said if i have 10 pin connector i should be able to get vesselview , engine is 2003 , but will it get me the info i need thats the question

The VesselView may indicate a fault, but I don't believe it will give you that much detail. I could be wrong, but you may still need a dealer to decipher the problem. I know with the VesselView Mobile dongle the information can be sent real time to a Merc service center of your choosing. They can then help figure out your problem.

Either way, it is a worthwhile investment if you have 496 Smartcraft enabled motors.

Ok guys little update here .

just went for a ride … caught 61 mph … and felt like i had lots more power … but started the engine and after a while no alarm until i hit the seaway and open the throttle it did two beeps but did not see major perfomance loss … 61 was what i reached at around 4700rpm

One of my buddy will have it scan … some mechanic told me to check compression but my idle is really good and starts like a charm … thiss beeping tells me its a sensor …
