whats the white stuff

I have had my boat put away for a couple of months now but had to get in it today and foung some white corossion( i guess thats what it is) on mu aluminum intake and on my polished aluminum valve covers. it wipes off but leaves a stain on the valve covers.
can any one tell me what this is and howe to prevent this and how to clean the valve covers with out hurting the finish that
Teague puts on them.

(Fast enough only lasts untill you get passed!)

the white stuff

Your Aluminum is apparently not "sealed" or coated. Thus, your valve covered are "oxidizing" ( rusting). Coat with a little oil or WD 40 -- or clean and "clearcoat" with a good clear sealer.

Careful, some clear coatings "yellow" after a short period of time. Or as Crazyhorse would say, they "yella" after a short period of time. :)

whats the white stuff/

Being from Iowa ,As I used to be, it could be snow,:D but like the guys said its condesation or not sealed ,I would try all the above suggestions except clearcoating ,the heat will make it turn yellow and flake off.;)

Yup. Yella. And up here in the cold, cold, arctic circle ya gotta remember to stay away from the yella snow.:D

Geez Houston,
What type of clearcoat are you talking about?? I just had 2 pairs of B & B polished aluminum covers done in clear powdercoat. I was told it will hold up:rolleyes: . Also had aluminum intakes and t-stat housings done.

POWDERCOATING?

NO DOUGHT , I BET IT LOOKS GREAT TO. AS LONG AS THE JOB WAS DONE CORRECT,(THE CLEANING PROCESS) AFTER BEING POLISHED AND THE TEMP ONLY GOES UP TO AROUND 375 ON THIS PROCESS OR LESS WITH THIS MATERIAL AND THICKNESS, LET US KNOW HOW IT LAST/I HOPE IT DOES. DARIN:cool:

The clear powdercoat took away just a little shine:( but it should be maintenance free and not oxidize. I wouldn't try it on a car or truck (too hot). But I've run an hour and a half and can rest my hand an the valve cover:D
I gotta get a digital camera so I can post pictures:mad: . Maybe Santa will bring me one:cool:.(maybe my wife will read this)
