Power Steering Actuator Leaking
 

I have the old style Saginaw steering actuator and it is leaking pretty bad (1989 454 Bravo One) . I know there is an updated aluminum one that came out in the late 90s, however the fittings on the hose are different. Anyways, I don't mind buying newer hoses, but want to make sure they fit the back of my PS pump. On my boat the return runs through the oil cooler, which is down low below port side of the motor. Can anyone shed light on what all I need to buy to retrofit from the old style to the new style, hoses, fittings, etc. Thanks

When I did mine I bought some used hoses from somebody that did a full hydraulic upgrade and had the actuator fittings with about 1 foot of hose coupled to my old hoses by a hydraulic hose shop, or NAPA may be able to do for you.

I bought all my fittings and hoses through auto parts store, but remember that the Saginaw actuator is the same one used on all 68-1980 corvette, so a lot of those rebuild kits and hose fittings are similar. However that's just from my research, as I own a corvette and rebuilt mine from what I had laying around the house.

I believe you are confusing the "actuator" (at the transom) and "power steering pump" (on the engine).

Im talking about the power steering valve actuator valve, is similar to corvette. It is the same s the one on my 1988 mercruiser
