VR1 Oil in 4 cylinder motors?
I bought 3 jugs of 20W50 VR1 oil to change the oil in my Fountain before I sold it. Now I don’t need it unless I can use it in my houseboat motor and generator. Thoughts??
Generator 4 cylinder westerbeke. Motor is 3.0 mercruiser. 20w50 is listed on the chart for the generator. But is racing oil okay to use? Manual suggests 20or25W40 for the 3.0. I’m leaning towards No for it. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...d9c0fbd50b.png https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...2ac68334c.jpeg |
it looks like the 20W50 is only listed for higher outside temperatures in the generator. Not sure if I would take a chance. Im sure you can find someone to buy the VR1 and then use the correct oil in the other two.

Where the chart bar is continuous (unlike the top bar) I thought maybe 20w40 OR 20w50 was okay for the entire temperature range it is under.

I’d use it in the boat 3.0, ‘cause we go as cold as -20f here in the winter and no way would i want a generator, or anything for that matter, want to , ir try to, start on 20w-50. I work out in the cold at times, i know how many different weights pour at different cold temps.
