Anyone with labbed REV 4 results?
Anyone had their Revolution 4 wheels labbed and thinned with good results? Looking to wake up my Rev 4 a bit, and was hoping to get other's perspective on labbing this wheel..
|
I dont think there are many Rev4's out there. I just switched to one on my Liberator with great results and will also end up getting it tuned. Just curious what your running it on and how it compared.
|
I have one on a 27 Fever, 23p, best prop I've triied so far. Talked to York twice now about labbing this prop, he wasn't to big on doing it. He said they are a pretty efficient prop out of the box.
I would be interested on any labbed results also. |
Talk to Darin at Houston Propeller. He has done a couple and can fill you in on the results. He did mention that at least one brand new Rev 4 he labbed was badly out of balance, so balancing and/or blueprinting is a good idea.

Not trying to take business from you Darin, but I had my 23 rev4 labbed and I noticed little improvement. Maybe about 0.5-1 mph and 75-100 rpm. I guess it could be looked at as cheap HP, but I did not get as much labbing this prop as I here other guys getting on other makes and models. Hope this helps.....A4

Question who did it?

A friend of mine told me he picked up 4 mph when he labbed the Rev 4 on his 27' Checkmate. He's happy with the gain.

Darin,
I appreciate the offer! However I know well enough of you thru this and other forums of your outstanding buisness practices and principle that you deserve to be paid for your work.. We have exchanged e-mails before about working a prop or two for me but I've been putting off getting back to you till after the holidays.. (easier to sneak it by Momma then ya know) :D Besides, winter has a pretty good grip on us up north till May anyhow. I know the Bravo 4 wheel is a great canidate for labbing but thought the Rev 4 would be also due to it's shear size and weight. I'm a littile suprised at Allan4's limited gain in top end compared to results you often see with the Bravo wheel when done right. Tell you what, I'll ship it your way and let you work some magic into it after the holidays. I don't expect any special deal as I'm sure you'll work with me on it should I need to send it back for any tweaking anyhow. We'll plan on thinning and balancing and post the results here in the spring. :) |
Yep, you are correct Too Old. I cant wait to buy and or send my next prop to Houston. Upgrading the engine this winter and will wait to see where I am at with the new HP.
Way to go Darrin! Ron |
Allan4,
Your top end gain (or should I say lack of) supprises me. How did the wheel pull out of the hole and thru midrange after the work? Reason I ask is that I've spun a 23P 3 blade Laser and it absoulutly out pulls the Rev 4 from out of the hole all the way thru the midrange. Even taking into consideration the 23P Laser is underpropped on my set up I'd thought that the Rev 4 23P would still hold it's own against it at least. I can't be lacking the HP or torque as I'm running a slightly modified 454 Mag 385HP. Top RPM with it is right at 5000 with a normal load onboard spinning the Rev 4. |
Houston, I have a 19 pitch Rev4 that may need to be tweaked if the engine mods come thru. Can the Rev4 be repitched and by how much?

Darin, Precicsion Props in Indy.
Zp'd, I noticed a little gain thru out. I've got a nice tourqy (I know, not a word) motor at 575 ft/lbs. So, the midrange is sweet already, hard to tell if it gained much, but it definitely picked up some, but not nearly as much as I was looking for. I thought I would gain an honest 2-3 mph and an honet 2-300 revs. I am running a 520 horse 509 in a 24 Outlaw. Part of the problem may be the power it takes to move this boat, plus the low X. If others are getting nice gains, I say go for it. Not much down side besides I lost a little bit of handling. Again, I am dealing with a tough package here. Darin certainly knows more about this than I, and if the consensus is that it will help, then might be a good idea. Just passing on my experience. Other than that, I absolutely love this prop. Not only is it the best handling prop I found, but also, the best mid range and the FASTEST!! Now, if that don't blow your hair back, what will:D :D |
FAST TRUCKS,FAST FOOD,AND FAST WOMEN EQUAL A HEART ATTACK/BE CAREFUL/ JUST KIDDING AROUND/DARIN NOW FAST BOATS JUST GET THE BLOOD PUMPING GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!

When i first got my 2002 288 with the 496HO the dealer said the factory was looking into possibly switching from the Bravo-I 24P to the Rev-4 and if results were positive they would switch out. Well eventually they said never mind because the Rev-4 would blow out on hole shots and tight turns with little noticeable top end gain. This is all I know about the Rev-4. What exactly are the differences compared to a like pitched Bravo1?...
|
I have a 23P Rev-4 on my single stepped 25 Shockwave Tremor pushed by a 496HO. The boat weights approximately 4300 dry. So far that prop seem ideal. No blow out, strong holeshot, and good top end.
So far I really like that prop.:D |
my story
I had a labbed by Merc Bravo 1 24 pitch and then bought a stock 23 pitch Rev 4. The rev was 2.5 mph faster on a back to back test with GPS

MAIN DIFFERENCE: The Rev 4 has a smaller diameter than the Bravo 1 (14 5/8" vs 15 1/4" typical) so it tends to work better on lower x-dimensions and non-stepped v-bottoms than the B1. 2. The Rev 4 has a straighter trailing edge (like a cleaver) which should mean more stern lift (not good for conventional v-hulls), but I think this is more than offset by a higher rake than the Bravo 1. I believe the Rev 4 creates more bow lift. (I could be wrong on this one, Darin.) 3. I don't know about blade thickness or cupping. But the Rev 4 appears to have a slight curl in the blade tips. I don't know what this accomplishes (help again, Darin). 4. It appears that the Bravo 1 may be made under better quality control as I think Darin has experienced more Rev 4's out of balance than Bravo's. This is an easy fix, though. Overall, the Rev 4 was designed to serve as a good 4-blade alternative on smaller, non-stepped v-bottoms and by all accounts has been a tremendous success. The B1's really work best with high X-dim, steps and cats due to the large diameter. You also have pitch limitations with the Rev 4 (17P - 23P) versus the B1 (22P - 36P). |
I guess I can add my experience. I had tried about every prop available. My boat is an older, heavier, under powered hull ( 92 26' Four Winns Liberator w/single454 @ 275pshp). I was having difficulty getting positive trim. Three blades would blow out and I dont have the power to turn a Bravo. Everyone told me that for bow lift I needed a 3 blade and that a 4 blade would give stern lift and make my problem worse. I thought that a 4 blade would hold the water better letting me trim out further before blowout. I found a good deal on a used Rev4 here. I called Merc Racing and spoke to someone about the prop first. He indicated that my thinking was correct and that the REv4 was built exactly for my type of application. My test results were great. I picked up about 4 mph at cruise and 1 mph at top end. 1 mph doesnt sound like much except that rpm dropped from 4900 to 4400rpm. I now have room for engine improvment. I can trim the boat conciderably more as indiated on the trim gauge before blowout. The whole boat ride higher and blowout in turns is almost non-existent. I ave a rather deep X demension as well.

I've had pretty much the same results as Intolerant1. Ran a 23 Rev 4 on a fairly slow hull with deep "X" dimension and it worked great. Ran the same top end as a 25 Mirage Plus, but had much better bite out of the hole and very little slip at cruise. Mid range was awesome. It was 2 MPH faster than a stock 26" Bravo 1 and hooked up a lot better. I had it labbed and added some pitch and gained about 1-1.5 MPH at the same RPM. It ran 75 GPS at 5700 RPM with 1.5 gears. Nordicheat tried it on his 28' stepped bottom Nordic and it didn't work well at all. So, the bottom line is ya gotta test, test, test! It may be for sale if anyone is interested.

WHAT MORE CAN BE SAID /YOU ARE ALL RIGHT .TEST/TRIAL/ERROR EQUALS PROVEN RESULTS.

I had a Rev 4 23P Labed last year by Chad. It was the best thing I have could have done. I gained 3 - 4 MPH. Before Labing the best I could do the previous year was 68 now its 72 (Speedo not GPS). Well worth the effort, My 2 cents
