Seeking Advice on Trim Tabs !
Hi,
I'm super excited to be a part of this awesome fishing community! I recently got into the fishing hobby and am already hooked. Now, I'm thinking of upgrading my boat with trim tabs to enhance stability and performance. I've come across this new store called CKW Store that's offering some good discounts on trim tabs. I wanted to reach out to you experienced folks to get your thoughts on whether it's worth buying from CKW or if I should stick to more established brands that you might have had good experiences with. Also, if you have any tips on how to make the most out of trim tabs or what to look for when making a purchase, I'm all ears (or should I say fins?). |
How do I determine the right size of trim tabs for my boat?
Anyone can answer this question who have already done this !
|
What's the installation process like for trim tabs?
Can I do it myself, or should I hire a professional?

Welcome to OSO!
You should edit your post and delete the fishing references. Lol....:) Not really fisho’s on here, more into high performance offshore powerboats. That said, I’m sure there’s several members who know about fishing. Tell is what your boat is and the power, you’ll likely get better responses. If you’re too hard core fishing for this crowd, thehulltruth is a pretty active forum for all things fishing. RR P.S. Remember, trim tabs can make a good boat better but they cannot make a bad boat good. |

Bennett trim tabs have been around for a long time. They have FANTASTIC customer service. I would call them directly to get a recommendation for your boat. They have great information on their website, and like I said, their CS is second to none.
Call them and spec what you need from your boat, and then buy it from whatever retailer you like. Bennett Marine | Trim Tab Systems for boats Across the Spectrum. (bennetttrimtabs.com) |
Ask the trim tab manufacturer directly.
Also, look at other boats like yours listed for sale that HAVE trim tabs, and see what they have installed. As I stated in one of your other threads on the same topic, reach out to Bennett directly. They have ALL of info you need and they are a well respected brand with fantastic customer service. |
HAFizz is a bot, or a human using a bot. (I think it's an ad basically).
On another forum, same user name, with a copy/pasted ChatGPT responses. https://formulaboatsforum.com/VBFORU...e-2#post-91494 Considering a switch from Bennett trim tabs to the larger Mercury K Plane tabs ChatGPTSwitching from Bennett trim tabs to Mercury K Plane tabs is a significant decision that involves several factors. Both trim tab systems serve the purpose of improving boat performance and stability, but there are differences between them that you should consider before making a switch. Here are some factors to keep in mind:

I'd be very careful with that website. I just looked it up and they are listed as being in Morton Grove......i used to live there and know the area very well so i google mapped where they are......its a very small strip mall and they also apparently have another business called Chicago Knife Works (also CKW) that only sells online. Then i went and check out who owns the domain name....no info given since they apparently want to keep their info hidden...and everything listed seems to show its done through some sort of proxy business in Arizona...And it was just registered about a year ago..... Not to say they are not legit...just due your homework before you get burned is all...

On Bennett trim tab's website. Page down to trim tab guidelines.
I have a Formula 292 Fastech which came from the factory with Bennett "ST 12" trim tabs. I upgraded to a Bennett "ST 16" tab only. I use the ST 12 backing plate. So I didn't have to drill new holes in my transom. Getting the larger trim tab made a substantial difference in performance. Whatever trim tab you use. Make sure that it fits when the outdrive is fully turned to port or starboard. Good luck. Guide to Trim Tabs - Bennett Marine |
