Replacement Alternator & Starter

Before I drop my engines back in this spring, I want to replace my starter and alternators. Looking to use API Marine, looking for any feedback on quality and longevity. Any other manufactures to check out beside Mercury?

I know OEM equipment is expensive but I would stick with mercury.

Decent shop can rebuild the ones you have, buying new these days is like a box chocolates

I've had good luck with powermaster 8500 alternator, you will need an aftermarket alternator bracket for 1/4" more clearance

A good Alt/Starter repair shop can work wonders.

They can rebuild and replace parts etc.

Best option IMHO.

Suggestion, to save money put a mercury starter on the port motor which is the more difficult to change and a rebuilt or aftermarket on the starboard starter which is easier to get to.

If you look into having yours rebuilt, I'd call Wurth Auto Electric Rebuilder on Krebs Station Rd in Paducah. He does excellent work, also sells new starters and alternators. Mine were not repairable, so I bought my replacements from him for my 525's last year. He knows his stuff on the different brands out there for marine or auto.
