Marine/RV Deep Cycle 12v battery-high temp?

Interstate Brand 12v Marine/RV Deep Cycle battery
I heard an ever so slight noise/ticking when I inadvertently (looking at something else in the engine bay) put my ear close to the battery. Popped the caps and noticed one cell nearly dry, two a little low, and three perfect water/acid level.
Touched the battery and it was hot (IR says 120-125oF).
Pulled it out of boat and set it way out in yard on 70oF ambient day. Topped all the cells off and two hours later battery still in the 120oF range. Multimeter says 9.8 volts.
I have always left the boat on a battery tender BUT battery has been out of boat and off the tender for over 4 hours and it is still WARM to the touch ~115oF

Okay, it’s a 7 year old battery and I am going to replace it BUT any ideas what could have happened?
