dart block 8cly lifter goes bad
Dart blocks have a lifter oiling issue that leaves the last pair of lifters on the passenger side (#8) almost starved for oil. i was reading this on yellow bullet ,I was wondering if this is true?

We've run the Big M s for over 20 years without a problem, could just be lucky I suppose.

I know a bunch of people running Dart blocks and have never did the mentioned upgrades with no failures. There are 1000's of blocks out there running just fine. |
is the block not similar to a GM block where the lifters get oil from a bored port front to rear? if so then why would any lifter not see the same flow and pressure of the others on the same bank?

I remember reading something about that when I bought a new block from them. Something about the lifters on #8 cylinder being the last to get oil so they would tap longer at startup. If I remember right the oil was draining down the distributor shaft hole and not feeding the last two lifters right away. The cure was on one of those videos on the internet about dart big blocks oiling system.

Some guys were observing a very long time of pre-lubing to get oil to #8 |

so this makes me wonder if they are using oil restricters in the block to limit oil to the valve train. I personally dont ever use them as the lifters take a beating and I would rather have lots of oil to them. on the oldsmobiles, which have a hard time returning oil from the heads, I use restricted pushrods so the lifters see plenty but I limit what ends up in the valve covers. just seems that with full oil to the top even with the distributor hole there would be enough restriction with the lifters and the body of the dist. to keep enough oil to the lifter.
