Edelbrock 1410 question
Hi, I put a Edelbrock 1410 carb on my 7.4l mercruiser and I have one problem. To get the engine started I need to set the idle screw at a too high rpm. But if I back off on it to get rpms down to a 600-700rpm idle and then shut off the engine it won't start back up. ( unless I do the too high idle adjustment as initially mentioned). What do I do to have it start and run at a lower normal idle? Thanks

Do you have one control lever and if so, do you know how to put throttle lever in neutral while still being able to give engine throttle ?
|
Yes one old quicksilver lever that does both throttle and engages the forward or reverse simultaneously. Although there is a disengage button on the side that will allow me to give throttle in neutral. Why ?
|
So you can do that to start it, then when engine warm , pull lever back so engine idles and you can then out into gear. Pretty normal for carb’d engine.
Or am I misunderstanding ? |
No I think you have a good idea there. There was a Fitech EFI throttle body there before so I never considered using that button. This might work. On my previous boat I had a 7.4l with the quadrajet carb. But it was set up with a gear lever and a throttle lever . So I can't remember but you think generally in that scenario we coax the start and idle by touching the throttle lever ? This would make it all make sense by using that button....

That’s why it’s (button) there.
You must be young enough you never used a carburetor ? The term two pumps and a shoulder roll does not just pertain to sex. Lololol It is also a reference to starting s carb’d motor. :) Two pumps is pumping the throttle lever forward twice and leaving a hair forward to run at say 1k rpm until engine warm enough to back off throttle and idle in neutral (about 700rpm) on it’s own. |

Ya I was doing different pumps ;) thank you very much. It's so obvious after you mentioned the reason for that button.....
