Surging 2001 Kohler 7.3e
Need some help!
I have a 2001 Kohler 7.3e with 153 hours on it. It will start right up and run for hours, surging the whole time. I have changed the plugs, changed the oil and changed the external water/fuel separator. At some point (I am the third owner) they removed the in line Kohler fuel filter and replaced it with a spin on canister style water/fuel separator. I have run a can of marine grade Seafoam through it - no change. Short of replacing a carburetor that probably has varnish in it, do you have any other suggestions? |
There are lots of discussions about that generator engine over at thehulltruth.

How difficult to remove and clean the carb? Surging generally indicates lean condition caused by clogging of the smaller (low speed jets, passages) of the carb. It could also be a small vac leak or a plugged fuel supply vent. Most likely a simple RnR with a good cleaning will cure it.
Here is an article where someone had a problem with the electric choke- https://theprojectboat.com/2021/08/1...the-nauti-oar/ Seems you could just hold the choke as a test or observe the relative position. See 4.5.4 https://www.moreman.spb.ru/upload_fi...6_eng_gzrw.pdf |
