502 TRS silent choice options?

The long arm of the law has shown up at my tiny lakeside town handing out fines for no mufflers...In Ontario you have to have mufflers on any boat built after 1960 unless you are 5 miles from shore...I've got a 1986 Donzi Hornet III with a 502, borg warner and TRS drive...is there a silent choice setup I can bolt on? Are the teague switchable tips my best option? does anyone else make similar?

Is there a decibel reduction requirement?

Is it just at idle or full time? (as in turn downs)

From the transport canada website:

To prevent excessive or unusual noise, no person shall operate a power-driven vessel other than a stock (unmodified) outboard engine, within five nautical miles (9.26 km) of shore unless it is equipped with a muffler system that is in good working order.

This restriction does not apply if the boat:
  • Was built or constructed before 1960;
  • Is used in a formal race or training exercise;
  • Directs the exhaust gases under water through the propeller hub or below the cavitation plate;
  • Is propelled by gas turbines or by an aircraft-type propeller operating in air; or
  • Is operated at five or more nautical miles (9.26 km) from shore.

There does not appear to be a decibel level...

We've been running open exhaust for years but I think someone complained and here we are...I could argue I'm doing "training exercises" lol...

I know the teague tips aren't a true expansion chamber style muffler, but if the noise is down as I idle out I doubt I'll have problems. If I go with something that exhausts through the hub of the drive I'm fine, But I don't know how much a pain that is with a TRS drive,

Not able to go thru hub with TRS
With no DB level listed, put anything on it and call it a muffler

i had the shotguns with no holes drilled in the plates (some do) and they took a chunk of the bark of my 502.

Zeke - I also have an 86 Hornet 3 that I just bought and am beginning to restore.

my research says they only made 47 so cool to see another owner on here. I also connected with a guy from Europe that had a beautifully restored example. Mine has a long way to go. This was after I pressure washed it and removed about 6” of leaves, 11,000 wasps and an army of ants and spiders. Hope to have the deck ready to pull off this weekend…..
