Trim on Throttle
Is there a way to add - or have it added... the trim on throttle (red one with black switch) to an existing set of sticks? I'm really don't want to add one of these kludgy bolt-ons if it can be avoided. Anybody have had this done?

with out the bolt ons,you have to change the individual throttle levers, the ones with trim have a tube welded on to house the wiring.thats if you talking about merc zeroeffoerts....
|
yeah, they are the mercs... can they be sent to the factory or a shop and retro'd?
|
just gotta order new sticks from merc, semi easily installed
|
that would be about 400 bucks for something I already have. I'd go with the addon first.

I put the Gaffrig switch for my tabs on a Gaffrig throttle that already had the drive button installed. It has 2 rocker buttons in a small housing just foward of the grip that I would guess you can have operate your drives. Its small and not ugly, and your index and social fingers fall naturaly on them. If I had twin motors I'd prefer this to the thumb switches. Cost is about 250 installed on your throttle. Then you have to wire it in.

Hold on there cowboys, I did this very same thing 2 yrs ago. Merc trim parts ordered from BAM. $100 for parts.
Shooter, all the parts needed are listed in this older topic that I replied to. http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...highlight=trim |

Check with Mark at BAM, he provided some info for me recently.

I'm sure I can mill a cavity in the Merc levers and mill a groove to run a small-gauge wire to a relay and make it work. Am planning to do this to my own set. I figure both drive trims on one side foir thumb use. A single switch mounted NOT up and down, but front to back for the tabs (both right and left at once) to use with bird finger. Will keep factory switches just above throttles for nonperformance usage and LR tab tweaking at cruise.
If you use a relay, you can use teeny 30 gauge wire and mill a tiny groove to glue it into (black 3M 4200). Might even use a single wire setup and switch on the negative side to the relay coil. That way only one wire per switch is required. Inside the box, below the dash plate, the teeny wires can junction to larger, flexible, durable braided wires that will stand up to the constant motion and not be delicate. Haven't yet started on mine, but will keep you informed when I do. |

I also added mine, tigged on a stainless tube added the switch and then polished them

Too old,yes theyare, the levers are stainless so they dont need any coating, but the dash plate is aluminumand I didnt coat it,just takes alittle more maintaince tokeep it shiney.

Originally posted by Dixie Doug What's the buttons on the Wheel Those are trim buttons for the drive. Makes it nice being able to control the drive from the wheel, and the tabs from the throttle, instead of reaching to the dash. Jerry |
